UNISA Registration Fee: 2025 Breakdown

The University of South Africa (UNISA) is a popular choice for many students in South Africa.

It offers distance learning, which means you can study from home.

Before you start, it’s important to understand the registration fees for 2025.

What is the UNISA registration fee for 2025?

In 2025, UNISA requires students to pay a registration fee. This fee depends on the number of modules you choose and your qualification level.

Each module costs between R1,815 and R7,550.

Most students take 4 to 6 modules per year, so the total cost ranges from R7,260 to R45,300.

You must pay a minimum amount before the registration deadline. If you don’t, your registration won’t be processed.

How much is the application fee?

When you apply to UNISA, there’s a non-refundable application fee. For online applications, it’s R110. For manual applications, it’s R170.

Are there any additional fees?

Yes, there are other fees you might need to pay:

  • Matriculation Exemption Fee: If you need a matric exemption, it costs R1,000.
  • Miscellaneous Fees: These include costs for practical modules and other services. For example, practical modules like COC1501 cost R4,500.
  • Study Material: Books and other materials are not included in the module fees. You’ll need to buy them separately.

When are the payment deadlines?

For the 2025 academic year:

  • Semester Modules: Registration and minimum payment deadline is 28 February 2025.
  • Year Modules: Registration and minimum payment deadline is 31 March 2025.

After paying the minimum amount, you must pay the remaining balance by the specified dates to avoid cancellation.

How can I pay my fees?

UNISA offers several payment methods:

  • Online Payment: Use the MyUnisa platform.
  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT): Transfer funds directly from your bank.
  • Bank Deposit: Deposit cash at any First National Bank (FNB) or ABSA Bank branch.

Note: UNISA does not accept cash payments at its offices.

Always use your 8-digit student number followed by a space and the correct allocation as a reference number (e.g., 12345678 5400374721) to ensure your payment is processed correctly.

What happens if I miss a payment?

If you don’t pay the minimum amount by the deadline, your registration won’t be processed.

If you miss subsequent payments, your registration may be canceled.

Can I get financial assistance?

Yes, UNISA students can apply for financial aid through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

NSFAS provides funding for tuition fees, study materials, and living expenses.

To apply, visit the NSFAS website and follow the application process.

Are there payment plans available?

UNISA allows students to pay their tuition fees in installments:

  • 50% of the total tuition fee is due at registration.
  • 25% is due by 15 May.
  • 25% is due by 15 August.

This payment plan helps students manage their finances throughout the year.
